January 16th, 2025 Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner for the second week running is Forum user ZeekR5430! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below!

As announced in the January 9 Development Update Blog, we have an updated Feedback Snapshot for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to share with you this week. If you aren’t familiar with the Feedback Snapshot from Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), here are a few important notes:

  • For items listed as Under Investigation, this means that our team is currently identifying the root cause and fix for the reported issue. As they are discovered and addressed, their status will be changed to indicate the update into which they will be incorporated.
  • In Progress items indicate that the team is actively working towards a resolution, but it has not yet been assigned to a specific Sim Update.
  • The items listed on the Bug Report and Wishlist are the top 24 as voted by members of the community on our official forums. These do not represent everything the dev team is currently working on, and Sim Updates 1 and 2 will include other fixes and improvements not listed among the top 24 on the Feedback Snapshot.

On the topic of Sim Update 1, we have previously announced that there will be a public beta test for the first SU of MSFS2024 prior to its full release. If you have not joined a past public beta, please be advised that it will be available for players on all platforms: PC-MS Store, PC-Steam, and Xbox Series X|S. We will share more information about how you can manually opt in to receive the pre-release test build once it is available. Be sure to follow the News & Announcements section of our forums or our official social accounts on Facebook, Threads, or Twitter to be notified how you can join the beta once it begins.

As a reminder, we are currently accepting questions for our next Developer Livestream. If you have a question for our regular panel of Jorg, Seb, and Martial, you can submit it using this web form. The most frequently-asked questions from the community will be addressed during the broadcast. Follow any of the platforms linked above to be alerted as soon as we post the date for the Developer Livestream.

Community Fly-In Friday

This week, we’re leaving the world of prepared runways behind us as we head into the jungles of Western New Guinea (part of Indonesia) for some adventurous bush flying!

Start in your Draco X, CubCrafter X or NX Cub, De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, Pilatus PC-6 Porter, or any other bush plane of your liking for some challenging landings in this tropical climate, including one of the most iconic landings in the world at the Bugalaga Airstrip!

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Rise of a Pilot – Career Mode Livestream

Join Microsoft Flight Simulator Community Manager SeedyL – a real-life private and glider pilot and former ground school (classroom) instructor at a flying school – as he teaches viewers about aviation using the Career Mode in Microsoft Flight Simualtor 2024!

In this livestream video series, SeedyL will start a new pilot career in MSFS 2024 and progress through the training and certifications, using the sim to explain aviation concepts and flight techniques encountered throughout Career Mode. If you’re new to flight simming, this will be a great opportunity to learn more about flying, and if you’re an experienced simmer, you can be entertained by SeedyL’s commentary or share your aviation expertise with other viewers in the chat who may have questions.

Viewers in Twitch chat will have the opportunity to vote on how SeedyL’s pilot career should proceed, for example voting on which missions to take next or which certifications to pursue.

SeedyL will be back in the cockpit next week on Tuesday, January 21. All episodes will be broadcast on our official Twitch channel starting at 11:00am PT (1900 UTC).

Looking for something immersive to watch? Well look no further than this cinematic video produced by Sam van Breda showcasing an early morning departure in a British Airways Airbus A321 from Innsbruck, Austria.

With a variety of internal and external shots, and the utilisation of both in-sim and real world sound snippets, this video is definitely best viewed in full screen with the speakers turned up!
