January 23rd, 2025 Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner for the second week running is Forum user COOPERDUDE6177! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below!

Earlier today, we released the regular monthly Navdata Update for AIRAC Cycle 2501. This update also included a small number of bug fixes related to navdata and navigation aids. You can find the full notes on our forums here.

The public beta for Sim Update 1 is now live! If you would like to participate in this optional pre-release test, you can read the patch notes and find instructions on how to join here. As always, the beta is available to players on all platforms: PC-MS Store, PC-Steam, and Xbox Series X|S. Please be advised that the public test build 1.3.7.0 release notes do not encompass everything that will be included with the final SU1 release; there will be additional bug fixes coming in future builds. Also, the MSFS2024 Marketplace is not part of this pre-release test but is planned to launch with the full release of SU1.

The dev team greatly appreciates everyone who chooses to take part in the pre-release beta test. Please be sure to log bug reports in the appropriate section of the forums. Specifically, we are looking for confirmation that bugs that were reported to be fixed in the release notes are now working properly and also if there are any regressions (features that were previously working but are now bugged) compared to the current live build.

Community Fly-In Friday

We’re off to New Zealand this week for a beautiful flight on the South Island! Starting from Christchurch, we’ll be making our way to Queenstown and then on to our full stop landing at Milford Sound, situated in a picturesque fjord that provides for a spectacular approach!

Alternatively, for those of you who like sailplanes, you can also fly one of your favorite gliders from Omarama (NZOA), globally-renowned for being one of the best soaring locations on the entire planet and site of the World Gliding Championships in 1995 and 2006-2007! Enjoy some of the best thermals and ridge soaring conditions that can be found anywhere!

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Rise of a Pilot – Career Mode Livestream

Join Microsoft Flight Simulator Community Manager SeedyL – a real-life private and glider pilot and former ground school (classroom) instructor at a flying school – as he teaches viewers about aviation using the Career Mode in Microsoft Flight Simualtor 2024!

In this livestream video series, SeedyL will start a new pilot career in MSFS 2024 and progress through the training and certifications, using the sim to explain aviation concepts and flight techniques encountered throughout Career Mode. If you’re new to flight simming, this will be a great opportunity to learn more about flying, and if you’re an experienced simmer, you can be entertained by SeedyL’s commentary or share your aviation expertise with other viewers in the chat who may have questions.

Viewers in Twitch chat will have the opportunity to vote on how SeedyL’s pilot career should proceed, for example voting on which missions to take next or which certifications to pursue.

SeedyL will be back in the cockpit next week on Tuesday, January 28. All episodes will be broadcast on our official Twitch channel starting at 11:00am PT (1900 UTC).

Community Video

For this week’s Community Video, we join British Avgeek who in their most recent video showcases the updated Vulcan by Just Flight for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

This iconic piece of aviation history first released in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), and is preparing for takeoff in for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The Avro Vulcan no longer graces the skies in the real world, but brilliant showcases like this from British Avgeek help to keep the spirit of the Vulcan alive in the simulator!
