For today’s Microsoft Flight Simulator Peripheral Spotlight, we’re focusing on one of flight simulations leading hardware providers for both PC and Xbox: Thrustmaster!
Established in 1990, Thrustmaster has become one of the leading names in the world of flight simulation peripherals by consistently producing a range of high-quality joysticks and other controls across civilian, military, and space simulation genres. The company’s president, Claude Guillemot, is a real-world small aircraft pilot, and he attributes his passion for aviation as a significant factor in acquiring the Thrustmaster brand, which stemmed from playing the original Microsoft Flight Simulator titles.
Thrustmaster are a regular at flight simulation events worldwide. Having attended every FlightSimExpo since the event’s inception in 2018, Thrustmaster continues to work together with the Microsoft Flight Simulator team in providing hardware and support for booth activities and promotions. In 2023 Thrustmaster threw an incredible event aboard the Shuttle Independence at Houston Space Center to celebrate the launch of their TCA Boeing Yoke, with community members, content creators, and members of the Microsoft Flight Simulator team in attendance.
“It’s been super fun getting to know and work with the Microsoft events and marketing team at the last few FlightSimExpo events around the USA. It’s so rewarding to collaborate with such a passionate team of flight sim experts on the development of idyllic on-the-floor flight sim cockpit setups, and after-hours fun with the community.” – Tim Gorham, North American Marketing Director
Online community engagement is another important element of Thrustmaster’s support work. After the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator in August 2020, they released the iLand: an entirely custom-built mod that allows players to fly around their own fantasy playground of canyons, mountains, airports, stunt courses, and more! Thrustmaster also works with and sponsors several content creators, including the likes of Jeff Favignano, CptCanada, LondonController, Chewwy94, and many others, as well as providing products to give away for charity fundraising events such as the annual “World Flight”.
Over the last 30+ years, Thrustmaster has launched a multitude of products, and is renowned for its innovation in flight simulation technology for the PC and Console markets. Thrustmaster collaborates closely with Microsoft teams globally to provide plug-and-play functionality across various flight simulation games on both PC and console platforms. Being the first brand to integrate Hall effect sensor joysticks to the mass market, they have continued to pioneer new products including the industry’s only officially licensed Boeing or Airbus hardware.
