September 19th, 2024 – Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner is Forum user HolmesCZ6127! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below!

So, quiet week, huh?

😉

Starting today, you can pre-order Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024! As a special bonus, anyone who pre-orders will receive the De Havilland Canada CL-415 firefighting aircraft (part of the Standard Edition of MSFS2024) to use right now in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)! You can learn more about how to pre-order and also read additional details about the simulator — including the full aircraft list — on this page. Pre-orders are available for Xbox and PC from the Microsoft Store now and will come to Steam next week on September 26.

If you’d like to learn more about the new sim before pre-ordering, then you can hear from press representatives and content creators who attended a special Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 preview event last week. The attendees received a behind-the-scenes look at what is coming in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in the form of presentations and interviews with key members of the development team. They also had a hands-on opportunity to try a pre-release build of the new sim itself. For your convenience, we’ve collected many of the text and video previews on our website here, and we’ll continue to update this page as more publications post their preview content.

We’re sure you still have many questions about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, so our next Developer Livestream is scheduled for next week on Wednesday, September 25 at 1730 UTC! During this broadcast, our panel of Jorg, Seb, and Martial will discuss the new sim and answer many of your questions. Since the initial reveal trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023, we have been collecting the most frequently asked questions from the flight sim community, and we’re very excited to start answering some of your top requests for more information!

As always, we will also be taking questions from live viewers during the event. You can watch the Developer Livestream on both our official Twitch channel and our YouTube channel. If you’re unable to watch the broadcast as it occurs, the recorded video will also be available on YouTube.

We look forward to sharing much more information with you about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 between now and its release date on November 19.

Community Fly-In Friday

The Community Fly-In Friday World Tour continues!

This week, we leave the beautiful Austrian and Swiss Alps behind us as we travel across Switzerland and into Germany’s Bavaria state! Bavaria is recognized around the world as a region with incredibly rich culture and history, but perhaps it is most famously known for the Reinheitsgebot (beer purity law) of 1516 which regulates the ingredients of beer to only include barley, hops, and water.

Every year, millions of tourists both from within Germany and from foreign countries travel to Munich for the annual Oktoberfest celebration. Our group flight will arrive in Bavaria just in time for the start of Oktoberfest on Saturday!

For the best experience, be sure to download the FREE World Updates VI & XVIII: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland from the in-sim Marketplace.

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Community Video

There are several videos from community content creators who attended the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 preview event, and we encourage you to watch them all! This week, we’re choosing to feature two of these videos. In the first, theVRpilot shares many details specific to virtual reality in the new sim, and in the second video, AvAngel tried some off-field landings to test how the bush flying is improved. You can watch both of their videos below, but also be sure to to watch many more preview videos here.
