September 5th, 2024 – Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner is Twitter user @KotetuP! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below!

Earlier today we updated the sim with the latest Navdata (cycle 2409). This will install automatically as a mandatory update the next time you launch the sim. Additionally, this update also contains the last batch of airport improvements submitted by community members from the World Hub Closed Alpha Test. As we announced previously, the World Hub is now closed but will be returning in 2025. Thanks to everyone who participated in the test! You can see a list of all the airports updated in today’s patch on our forums here.

We’re excited to announce that our next Developer Livestream is scheduled for September 25! In this stream, our panel of Jorg, Seb, and Martial will share more details about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and start answering some of the most frequently asked questions we have collected from players since the initial reveal trailer last year. You don’t want to miss this broadcast! As always, you can watch it live on our official Twitch channel on Wednesday, September 25. If you’re unable to watch the broadcast as it occurs, we will also post the video to our YouTube channel within a day or two of the original Twitch livestream.

Creator Highlight

A name many in the community will have known for years, this month’s Creator Highlight focuses on helicopter afficionado Sérgio Costa of HeliSimmer.com!

A regular attendee at Flight Simulation events worldwide, Sérgio is well known for his welcoming attitude whether you happen to be brand new to virtual helicopter flying, or a seasoned pro.

Having started flight simulation back in the late 90’s on FS4.0, Sérgio set up HeliSimmer to fill a void in the market where helicopter fans worldwide could learn and discuss as one big community. With a YouTube channel, Facebook group, website, and forums, HeliSimmer as a brand has grown to be the most respected source of helicopter simulation news in the world of flight simulation.

Sérgio has consistently provided invaluable feedback over the years, offering help and support not only to the community, but also working alongside many software and hardware developers to enhance and progress helicopter flight simulation to where it is today.

Having attended the Global Preview Event for Microsoft Flight Simulator in September 2019, Sérgio is well versed in the journey MSFS has taken over the years. He is looking forward to the new activities virtual helicopter pilots can embark upon in MSFS 2024, saying that before players could only imagine these features, and now they will be included for all!

If you want to learn more about the ever-spinning world of virtual helicopter aviation, you can visit the HeliSimmer website to find more information and links to their social media platforms!

Community Fly-In Friday

The Community Fly-In Friday World Tour continues!

This week, we’ll be visiting Innsbruck, one of the most scenic locations in the beautiful Austrian Alps! Innsbruck, host city of both the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Games, has long been a favorite destination of flight simmers due to its spectacular scenery nestled in a beautiful mountain valley. You definitely don’t want to miss this stage of the World Tour!

For the best experience, be sure to download the FREE World Updates VI & XVII: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland from the in-sim Marketplace.

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Community Video

Join Bingo Fuel in this breath-taking Microsoft Flight Simulator video as they showcase the cutting-edge F-35B Lightning II during a stunning sunset training mission off the coast of California. In this mission, the F-35B practices STOVL (Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing) carrier operations, demonstrating the unique capabilities of this advanced stealth fighter.

With the backdrop of a stunning Californian sunset, we thoroughly enjoyed the mix of in-cockpit and external views to fully immerse us in this week’s Community Video!
